Steps to Recognition and/or Citizenship

There are six types of status that are recognized in the SPQR. These are:

1. Citizen - Optimo Iure - A Roman citizen with full rights, privileges, and responsibilities.
2. Citizen - Non Optimo Iure - A Roman citizen with partial rights, privileges, and responsibilities.
3. Perigrinus - Latinus - A non-citizen who joins a Roman satellite municipality.
4. Perigrinus - Provincialis - A non-citizen who is a resident of territory claimed by the Senate and People of Rome.
5. Perigrinus - Foederatus - A non-citizen who is a citizen of a foreign nation with which the SPQR has a treaty.
6. Non-citizen - Barbarus - A non-citizen and non Perigrinus that resides outside the territory claimed by the SPQR.

The following guide indicates the steps necessary to acquire status recognition and/or citizenship in the SPQR:

STEP 1. Complete Your Forum Profile. This profile serves as your application form. It will request personal information both for processing the form, your identification cards, and for contacting you throughout the process. Private information is only viewable by yourself and the administrators processing your application.

STEP 2. Recognition Status Determination. It is important to determine which status you can apply for. To do this go to our Recognition and Citizenship thread and post your answers to the following questions:

What is your current status?
A. My parents are Roman Citizens and married through IVS CONVBII before I was born.
B. I am a permanent resident of a SPQR satellite municipality.
C. I am a permanent resident of a nation with formal treaty relations with the SPQR.
D. I am a permanent resident of the territory claimed by the SPQR.
E. None of the Above.

Which of the following have you completed?
A. I have completed twenty years active service in the AVXILIA.
B. I have been the legally appointed leader of a city the recognizes the SPQR and have honorably completed my term.
C. None of the Above

An administrator will then determine your status and you can proceed to the next step.

STEP 3. OPTIONAL: Request Senatorial Exemption. If you wish to apply for a status other than what you qualify for you may request a senatorial exemption. For example, if you wish to become a citizen but only meet the requirements of a BARBARVS.

STEP 4. Submit Questionnaire Answers. After your form is complete and you have determines your Status Eligibility you must complete the Questionnaire. The Questionnaire can be found here:

STEP 5. Submit Photos & Fee. Will will be required to submit a passport style photo of yourself as well as a non-refundable $50 processing fee.

NOTE: The $50 processing fee is currently waived until we are ready to create IDs and certificates.

STEP 6. Application Reviewed. Your Application, Questionnaire and other information will be reviewed and a determination made. You will be notified if your application is approved or denied.

IF APPROVED; An the date of your interview will be sent to you. This interview will likely be conducted virtually.

STEP 7. Review Recognition and Citizenship Test. While waiting for your interview date you should review the Recognition and Citizenship Test. You will be asked up to 15 of the 100 questions from this test to determine your knowledge in these areas. You must answer 14 out of 15 questions correctly to pass the test.

STEP 8. Attend Interview and Answer Questions. During your your interview you may be asked for additional information about your Application. You will also be asked the Questions from the Recognition and Citizenship Test.

Upon completion of your interview you will be notified if your application: is approved, will be reviewed, or is denied.

STEP 9. IF APPROVED: Take Affirmation. If your application is approved then you will be required to take the affirmation.

If you do take the affirmation you will be considered formally recognized for the status you applied for.
If you do NOT take the affirmation your status may be denied.

STEP 10. Receive Recognition ID Card and Certificate. If your status recognition is approved, your Recognition ID Card and Certificate will be created and send to you.
